What more can be done in India regarding the trifecta of securities connected to soil – water, food, and climate?
Soil has an important connection to water security. As the main layer that differentiates surface and groundwater, soil’s quality, and nutrition affects its water storage and retention capacity affects floods and droughts. Soil contains nutrients, which act naturally to de-contaminate water. However, poor water quality can lead to soil that contains metals, chemicals and other harmful substances, which can adversely impact human health and food production. Furthermore, climate change affected conditions such as flooding can lead to soil erosion that could have long-term effects on agriculture and soil conservation.
