Regional Workshop on Cooling India’s Cities, 26 September, 2024 | Vijayawada
Kubernein Initiative served as the knowledge partner for Tabreed, a global leader in district cooling solutions.
Rising temperatures increase demand for cooling, which in turn increases electricity consumption and GHG emissions. District cooling technology and related solutions reduce energy consumption while creating an opportunity to provide thermal comfort for all. The technology can also integrates with renewable energy sources, Sewage Treatment Plans, and Waste to Energy plants to create resource efficient, circular systems.
In a significant step towards addressing India’s urban cooling challenges, a consortium of partners successfully hosted the second in a series of Regional Workshops on ‘Cooling India’s Cities’ in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, on 26 September. The workshop focused on discussing the opportunities and challenges to adoption of sustainable cooling solutions in Andhra Pradesh state and Amaravati city specifically where Tabreed had signed India’s first Public-Private Partnership concession with the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) in 2019 to develop a 20,000 RTs District Cooling System for the government complex area within the planned capital city of Amaravati.
Speakers at the workshop included Mr Sudheer Perla, Tabreed India; Piyush Jain, GIZ GmbH; Benjamin Hickman, UNEP; and representatives from the Andhra Pradesh, and surrounding state’s DISCOMs, developers, consultants, architects, media, academics and others. .
